Despite his many accomplishments, many figures in the ''Xenosaga'' figure dismiss Mizrahi as the psychotic precursor to the destruction of the human race. His name, like many other things in the Xenosaga series, is a reference to Judeo-Christian mythos. His first name corresponds to the name of the Jewish king Joachim (also spelled Jehoiakim) which translates “he who is established by God”. In the Catholic cannon Joachim is the grandfather of Christ. It seems likely that the first reference is the one intended by the game’s designers because of similarities between the lives and deaths of the two. The Joachim, the Jewish king, was thrown over the top of wall of Jerusalem to prove to the attacking army he was dead; Joachim the scientist was thrown from the top of a building for perhaps similar reasons. His last name is an obvious reference to the Mizrahi Jews. The intentions behind this reference aren’t clear. Mizrahi was apparently quite familiar with the Bible as evidenced by his quotation from the Revelations reveals. He also seems to of also had a belief in the importance of good deeds since he repeatedly told MOMO that good deeds could make her human, but his seeming attempt to destroy humanity raises questions about this virtue.
