Juancarlos2004

Juancarlos2004 is one of the online nicknames of a Colombian Wikipedia contributor. ==Interests== Some of his specific interests include that nation's and South America's past, present and future history, politics, sports and culture. ==Statement of intentions== Juancarlos2004 does not presume to know everything about any given subject, as he considers that only the collective construction of knowledge can hope to even approach any semblance of absolute and undisputable truth. From that perspective, he believes that Wikipedia is a useful encyclopedic tool, for the most part. He will usually recognize that there are both contextual and structural explanations for different historical and contemporary developments, that at least deserve a Wikipedia mention, or even much more than that. Principaly due to his country's dark and violent history, which he continues to learn from daily, he tends to reject extremism from both the far right and the far left, and especially makes a point of avoiding the use of violence to further any means whatsoever, at least not unless it's the very last resort and is only employed in a provisional and flexible fashion. He does not believe that the ends justify the means, as history has already proven that the means are just as likely to subvert the ends in the process. This doesn't mean that there's an automatic moral equivalency or indifference towards both sides though, since specific circumstances and a sufficient body of evidence can indeed show objective degrees of responsibility and guilt in concrete matters. These and other hard to define positions have gained him both friends and enemies on both sides of the political spectrum, inside and outside his nation, online and offline. Some consider him a communist, some consider him a capitalist. It depends on the subject at hand. He declines to specifically define his own ideological limits, as he believes that they are not set in stone. He considers this as a relatively good development, even if it's a potentially dangerous one as well, since that would mean that he's not following anyone's line of thought blindly and as a result is usually open to respectful sugggestions, corrections and comments from that those might know better than he does. That doesn't mean, however, that Juancarlos2004 will not try to defend his current positions and share his limited amount knowledge where applicable, though he may eventually recognize his mistakes and change his mind, or at least modify his arguments to adapt to new conditions and new information. Ideally, that is. Juancarlos2004 is aware that even the best theories usually can't be consistently put in practice without a degree of friction and a decent margin of error. Afterall, we are all imperfect humans. ==Some of Juancarlos2004's Contributions== Coming up...whenever he considers that there's enough time and willpower available to list them. ==Any Comments?== Please enter them in the User_talk page, thank you. ==Colombians== Hey Juan Carlos, I've been looking around Wikipedia for important Colombian personalities, specially dealing with politics, drgus, and the armed conflict (Escobar, Galan, Montoya, etc.) but I've seen that either their pages don't exist or the articles are incredibly small. I was wondering if we could somehow get a group of Colombians together to try and work on that. I just figured you'd be a good first person to ask. Later. :Hello. Thanks for the attention...I'd definitely support your idea, as there would need to be an organized effort in order to really do that effectively. The main issue would then be how to set about doing it, of course...User:Juancarlos2004 22:23, 15 May 2005 (UTC) Are interested in speading you hatred for Colombia around? If you want to speak shit about Colombia or any country go and copy any American Encyclopedia or the CIA facts book those are very good propaganda sources. You want to talk about drugs but you never mention that the US is the largest consumer of illegal drugs in the world and it is almost legal there. If you want to mention one side of the story you have to mention the other side too for your article to be balanced. --User:Tequendamia 03:02, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC) ==Vocabulary Project== Hi there, you have a Spanish handle and write in English, so I wondered if you might be interested in the project. Check my page and let me know what you think about it. User:Get-back-world-respect 08:57, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC) == Liberalism in Colombia == Thanks for your addition of New Liberalism. I hadn't the information available. --User:Wilfried Derksen 09:05, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC) ==Colombian?== I've noticed most of your contributions to the Wikipedia are to articles related to Colombia. So... are you Colombian? --User:Fibonacci 00:09, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC) :Hi, sorry for not answering earlier...yes, I happen to be from Colombia. User:Juancarlos2004 20:06, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC) ::¡Bacano! ¿De qué parte de Colombia? I thought there were no Colombians in the English Wikipedia besides User:Bogota... I'm glad to see there is at least one. --User:Fibonacci 01:38, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC) :::De Bogotá...soy "cachaco", como se suele decir. Anyways, I'm sure that there may be some other Colombians around...though most of them post either irregularily or mainly in the Spanish version of Wikipedia. Btw, it's also interesting to know that you're living in Bogotá, curiously. --User:Fibonacci 19:43, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC) == Venezuela == Hi Juan Carlos, As I'm sure you've noticed, I've been editing a lot of the Venezeulan politics-related articles: Hugo Chavez, Barrio Adentro, Plan Zamora, Rodrigo Granda affair etc. What do you think the biggest missing, inaccurate, or deficient areas are? Peace, User:DanKeshet :Hi DanKeshet. As far as I can sum up in a few words, they are mostly fine. In the case of the Plan Zamora article, perhaps some more info on the different pro- and con- stances could be added, especially regarding the post-2003/current situation (the international and national (Venezuelan) press has had some pieces about land reform lately, for example, and several alleged incidents). To an extent, that might also apply to the Barrio Adentro piece. The Rodrigo Granda affair sums up most of the situation quite well, I believe, though I suppose that a few more specific dates could be added, in a chronological manner. The Hugo Chávez article is a very controversival issue on its own, but the current cleanup seems to be headed in the right direction, in my humble opinion. User:Juancarlos2004 22:29, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC) ==M-19== Hey.... thanks for the M-19 corrections... I'm aware my English isn't too good. ==Stop vandalising my lines== --User:Tequendamia 06:37, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC) I will give evidence of the obvious and evident the same day George Bush provides evidence that Abu Ghraib never happened. :So that means that you are apparently not prepared to discuss this rationally, but instead must resort to out of context comparisons. You are the one that wants to defend that line, you are the one that must provide the evidence of its existence and relevance, just as there's ample photographic and textual evidence of what happened in Abu Ghraib (but what the heck does Abu Ghraib have to do with the Pan-American Highway, I'll never know). User:Juancarlos2004 16:32, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC) ==Re: Bolivar's Death== Bolivar did not die of sexual disease, that´s a lie, he died of tuberculosis, hereditated from his mother. He started to have that disease in a peruvian town called Pativilca where almost died, but he saved previous to the battle of Junin. He then wanted to stay in Lima because of the weahther of city shic it doesn´t rain, but the problems in the Greater Colombia forced him to return. His disease countinued in Bogota which complicated and much more with the conspiracy he had from his enemies. The problems, the disolution of the Greater Colombia and the assasanation of Marshall Sucre depressed him which acelerated his desease. One oh his intentions was to go to Europe to recover but he coulnd´t. He died in Santa Marta. Bolivar got old prematuraly because of the tuberculosis. In that time there was no cure against it. The cure was found in 1880 with the Streptomicin. Edward (Originally posted by 200.122.202.98) == ack == Nice work on Unión de Jóvenes Patrióticos. I don't think Kapil understood the point I was trying to make on the talk page. -- User:Viajero | User_talk:Viajero 10:07, 23 May 2005 (UTC) == Posada Carriles == Hi again, a minor issue of nomenclature: As you know, we don't refer to people using the ''apellido matrimonial'' in Anglo-Saxon countries. In the article Luis Posada Carriles, he is referred to sometimes as "Posada" and sometimes as "Posada Carriles". Is "Carriles" his mother's family name or is it some kind of fancy compound last name? (we have them in English too but they are rare.) Thanks, -- User:Viajero | User_talk:Viajero 16:59, 23 May 2005 (UTC) :I would definitely think that "Carriles" is indeed his mother's family name.User:Juancarlos2004 18:49, 23 May 2005 (UTC) ==Reunión (ahora sí en serio (¡eso espero!))== Vea, me llegó esta vaina a mi página de usuario en la Wikipedia española, de pronto le interesa: :hola, he visto que te has categorizado como wikipedista colombiano.
