The reasoning behind this isn't immediately clear; it may be that she's styled after a Yuki-Onna (Snow witch of Japanese legend), or because her kiss puts people and Pokemon to sleep. Rougela comes from "Rouge" and "la", actually meant "lipstick" in Japanese. == Controversy == Jynx's original design bore a striking, but likely coincidental, resemblance to entertainers in blackface. (Likely it was a parody of or homage to the Japanese ganguro fashion trend, which was popular when Pokemon was first released.) As Pokemon became more popular in the US, this similarity to a particularly racist image from America's past offended some. In response to this controversy, in 2002 Nintendo changed Jynx's hands and face from black to purple in Pokemon games, a change which would be reflected in the anime three years later in Pokémon (anime). == Anime Appearances== Jynx made an appearance in the episode ''The Ice Cave'', which was not aired in English-speaking countries, and in the episode ''Holiday Hi-Jynx'', which isn't re-aired in USA but is in the UK, both because of the above controversy. She later appears ''Pokémon Orange Islands'' series, in episodes still present in American rotations. Her 13-second appearance in Pokemon AG episode 23 ''All Things Bright and Beautifly'' was cut out when the episode was localized for English-speaking countries. She later appears in episodes 116 and 117 of Pokemon AG, with the inoffensive purple skin color. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Ice PokémonPsychic PokémonJynxDoes anyone have external links that discuss this racial issue. I was previously unaware of it User:Zephyrprince 21:48, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC) http://www.bulbagarden.net/~dogasu/bashing/racist_jynx_01.html there :D == Holiday Hi-Jynx == In the article it says that: ''Holiday Hi-Jynx''...isn't re-aired in English But I have seen it on Tooonami UK. Does anyone have further information on this? Sonic Mew 21:01, May 17, 2005 (UTC) * I kept editting it as "isn't re-aired in USA", but I don't know who always change it back!! =o=||| Jynx==Link in Jynx== * Is there a need to keep adding that link in Jynx? It seems to be a Geocities site of little consequence, not to mention the fact that it's coming up with an error page at the moment. I've commented it out for the time being instead of reverting; I'd hate to keep going back and forth about this. User:A Man In Black 08:46, 14 May 2005 (UTC) * Page error? What sort of page error? Give me the number of error. Well I don't quite understand what little consequence mean, but what is the problem of having that link there!? I really really want that link there. :*It was coming up in...well, an Eastern language I don't recognize. Probably a bandwidth exceeded error. As for the necessity of the link, why should your fansite be linked in the article, other than the fact that you're understandably proud of it? Does it have some important information, or some significance in the Pokemon fan community that I'm not aware of? User:A Man In Black 22:21, 14 May 2005 (UTC) * I said it it somewhere else. I am not proud of my site or something but I want other Jynx fans to feel a bit more comfortable: At least there is 1 site that cares this character. Important information? Yes. Its got Jynx issues in it. Its got Jynx fan art in it. It is a site set especially for Jynx. It is a fansite. Other Pokemon got fan sites, I don't see why this one can't. Just chuck that link on. * There's no reason to include a fan site just because it's there; Wikipedia isn't a link repository. If someone wants to find a Jynx fan site, there's always Google. The only reason other Pokemon have inane fansite links is because they haven't been checked and deleted yet. User:A Man In Black 05:27, 16 May 2005 (UTC) * Then this is really not a good solution. What is the matter of a link apart from spending a tiny weeny amount of browser space? If you don't want the main page, this does have information [http://hk.geocities.com/poke124mon282/jynxzine.htm] I'm very sorry, but if you don't give me a better reason, I am going to put my link there everyday. * You still haven't explained why the link being there contributes to the article. I'm willing to listen, but I'd like to hear something that isn't "What harm is it doing?" It's possibly diverting people from Wikipedia to a fansite of dubious quality, and contributing to making external links in general less useful because trust in them is diminished. User:A Man In Black 05:20, 18 May 2005 (UTC) * Basically, it had articles there. THere is also some information of this character there. I mean, this link http://hk.geocities.com/poke124mon282/jynxzone.htm *That's a non-English link, with little info not on Nintendo's official site or GameFAQs. User:A Man In Black 21:23, 27 May 2005 (UTC) * Most are bilingual. the ones that are only available in cantonese is made up, ie, not real. Official sites? ha! Really, official sites don't contain anything that real POkemon fans need, they only know how to attract little children, whilst the average age of Pokemon fans nowadays is 17. * Sigh. I think this discussion is fruitless. As the site is still coming up as an error, I think it's best to leave it off; if it starts working again, please know that I will do appropriate and allowed things (meaning I won't revert war you or anything like that; instead I'd find a respected Wikipedian to moderate this) to keep it from being linked, as it's a non-English site with little useful English-language information on Geocities, making for three good reasons not to link it. User:A Man In Black 10:08, 30 May 2005 (UTC) * If so, its your computer's problem. Not my page's problem. My audiences don't have trouble with it. but anyway, i decided not to put it on here, if ppl here only goes to "official" sites.
