KPIX (CBS 5) is Viacom's CBS-owned and operated television station based in San Francisco, California. Through its Viacom-owned subsidiary, UPN, KPIX is co-owned with KBHK (Channel 44), as well as KOVR (Channel 13) and KMAX (Channel 31) in the neighboring Sacramento, California-Stockton-Modesto market. The station transmits from the Sutro Tower and its signal covers the San Francisco Bay Area. Known on the air as "CBS 5", KPIX is home to one of the higher rated newscasts among CBS-owned stations. ==History== It is Northern California's oldest television station, going on the air on December 24, 1948, and became affilliated with CBS television in April 1949.
