==March and April 2005 Archives== === To Safeguard, or not To Safeguard === ''As most folks may or may not know, I have been discussing the definition of safeguarded material in regards to the talk page for Order of the Arrow lately between a few users there. As I typed out my own positions, I figured that I'd develop a full position argument for view and comment. The entire summary of the discussion is included in my position, which is a subpage to this talk thread and available at this link: User_talk:Kc9cqj/Safeguarded Material''. === Re: NPOV in University of Evansville === I put the NPOV in the article because I thought the article's content was biased. Feel free to exmaine for yourself.. ''Figured as much. Fixed anyways. Here's a lesson for those UE folks - don't blow yer own horn!'' === In re User:Nobs, was Russell Tribunal=== *Thanks for your response. I simply would like to include one or the other following referances in the page: (1) :''Fellow Nobel Prize in Literature for 1974 Alexandr Solzhenitsyn was critical of the Russell Tribunal's objectives and motives in ''The Gulag Archipelago'', Part II, chap. 2, p. 537, footnote 2, Afred Knopf Edition (1976). or the following text taken from the Gulag Archepelago, referancing a litany of human rights abuses within the Soviet Gulag system (for which Mr. Bertrand Russell had earlier in his career been an apologist for) (2) ::Say there, Bertrand Russell’s “War Crimes Tribunal”! Why don’t you use this bit of material? Or doesn’t it suit you? User Willmcw has deleted it twice and won't logically discuss the merits of Solzhenitsyn's view. I'm new to Wiki, and don't know the arbitration process. Any help or experience you can give me I'd greatly appreciate. This really is a matter of serious historic interest and belongs on the page. Again, thanks --User:Nobs ::''This case is in progress and should be resolved shortly. User:Kc9cqj 03:23, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)'' Work continues on placing nobs'/Rob's content into the proper place. User:Kc9cqj 10:28, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC) There is an anonymous IP user that I feel has overstepped his boundaries and, quite frankly, is being a bit of a troll. I wrote this back to him - :And I reiterate my comments above. If I knew which IP address you were actually using, I'd explain myself there. But, on second thought, I might as well do it here since you will probably give me some answer about anonymity or some rhetorical argument. (By the way, if you go to my user page, my real name is there. I even tell you for whom I work and what my e-mail address is.) Nobs asked me to see what I thought of the text that he wanted inserted in this page. His real name happens to be Rob. They are the same person. This should make sense by now, and if it does not, go to my talk page. I was following your new discussion regarding where the content should go. I was attempting to clarify your comments and got you to break the issues out so everyone could understand precisely where the issues are. I wanted to see general consensus, and you brought it out. You have proven your point, and you did a fine job of referring Nobs/Rob to the right place where I made a query about putting the commented quotes there. Thank you. But then, you jumped in front of my comment above and made statements that I've already brought to his attention regarding format and no empty headers, so on and so forth. In fact, I already made a comment that you weren't trying to censor this article, that you were working for its benefit, but obviously that wasn't good enough for you, was it? :I would like to see EXACTLY where your accusations of harassment and vulgarity are coming from. I don't take those accusations lightly at all, especially when you state that another editor has written idiocy, which, in my opinion, could be construed as a personal attack. In addition, whether you know it or not, Nobs IS a new user to Wikipedia and is not familiar with our editing guidelines or what is expected from a Wikipedia article. He probably hasn't read all of the discussions or editing guidelines and is learning by doing, which a good portion of us do. It would have helped the situation if you'd been a little more helpful instead of being sarcastic and quick on the trigger. Just my opinion. KC9CQJ 11:29, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC) :I want to clarify this here. If this guy had his own username or had used this IP more than once, I would have posted this on his user page. I want to see his evidence of nobs' harassment and vulgarity, and I want to hear him say it, even when in this article, he's probably the one referencing cutting and pasting and not listening to arguments (go read the talk article if you're confused). He's not treating newbies nice, and he ought to be ashamed of himself. Smoked a cigarette, got something to eat, and came back to this. Taken care of and moot. User:Kc9cqj 13:52, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC) KC9CQJ: I appreciate your advocacy, seems you've been working overtime. I'm amazed at your understanding of all issues too. responding to anonymous user 165.247.204.55 on the Tribunal pages diverts from the issues fairly well in focus over there, so if you don't mind, I'd like to respond to him here *Suggestion to anonymous 165.247.204.55: "If you are not capable of discussing on issue on its merits, try reverting to slander and personal attacks". User:Nobs Thanks for letting me use your page. :We have a tentative resolution, but I'm not sure if nobs is going to call for an independent peer analysis or not. If so, I'll be helping him out. If not, I'll be closing this case soon. All other information or posts were moved to the archives. User:Kc9cqj 09:23, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC) ::We are calling for independent peer analysis and review through Request for comment. This RfC will not be filed until I can get the involved disputants to certify general moderation terms. I am holding further comment pending the certification of moderation terms. User:Kc9cqj 00:53, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC) ===In re User:SqueakBox (was) Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Cumbey=== Your work at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Cumbey was reverted by sysop , apparently on the IFC request of another user, probably Cumbey. I could really do with help, yes please, --User:SqueakBox 16:49, Apr 12, 2005 (UTC) :My offer of assistance was accepted. I have notified SqueakBox of my assistance and have taken this into active caseload. User:Kc9cqj 09:05, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC) I left a note saying I do not want mediation; thanks for your help on this one, --User:SqueakBox 16:29, Apr 13, 2005 (UTC) I have Skype. I can ring you if you are in the States as it is cheap enough 2c a min. Write me at my email address which is my user name at hotmail but let me know if you do that. I am tigaboxadoggy at Skype, I don't know about IRC or AOL IM, --User:SqueakBox 20:52, Apr 13, 2005 (UTC) No I don't have it. It is at hotmail followed by .co.uk using my name of squeakbox; try again, it may be the UK bit that is confusing you, --User:SqueakBox 21:17, Apr 13, 2005 (UTC) I just found [http://fulfilledprophecy.com/contents_menu.html this]. Good background, thought you might be interested, --User:SqueakBox 01:14, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC) The latest news on the RfC is this: Cumbey has been blocked for 24 hours after another series of personal attacks and legal threatening on the RfC itself. We are currently waiting for the RfC to generate further comments. Interested users or anyone who has signed the RfC thus far should see it as soon as possible. User:Kc9cqj 06:17, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC) I'm now fully in the picture about what happened last night. Cumbey is continuing her attacks against Wikipedia, Jimbo Wales (see his User talk), Salient and I on her blog. I think the attacks against Wikipedia are worth noting, and I have, of course, saved a copy onto my hard disc. Unlike, I suspect, Cumbey, I am feeling very relaxed about the whole thing. What is bizarre is the edit by , which is from an anon and once used Allen Park, Michigan IP address, and just copyedits her piece. More seriously I note [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Javier_Solana&diff=prev&oldid=12319171 here] she disrupts the Solana text when what she should have done is avoid the repetition of the name as I did [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Javier_Solana&diff=next&oldid=12319171 here]. One could argue her sloppiness is almost vandalsim given her history, because it is an unnecessary disruption of the text, and puts Wikipedia in the bad light in which she appears to want to cast it at the moment, --User:SqueakBox 17:29, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC) :I have advised SqueakBox to back away from editing within Solana for a few days to allow the situation to cool down for a few moments. However, it appears as if another edit war is going to pop off within the Antichrist allegations subarticle. If any interested user reads this, please, for the sake of everyone's sanity, LEAVE IT ALONE for a few days! User:Kc9cqj 10:29, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC) UNTIL THE EDIT WARRING ENDS AT JAVIER SOLANA, JAVIER SOLANA ANTICHRIST ALLEGATIONS, CONSTANCE E. CUMBEY, AND ANY ASSOCIATED ARTICLES, I AM WITHDRAWING MY ASSISTANCE FROM THE JAVIER SOLANA DISPUTE AND ANY ASSOCIATED ACTIONS. I HAVE TRIED TO GET BOTH USERS TO THE NEGOTIATING TABLE, AND OBVIOUSLY BOTH OF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN A SOLUTION. I DO NOT TOLERATE EDIT WARRING AND HAVE SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED THAT IT STOP IMMEDIATELY. User:Kc9cqj 00:54, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC) :Sorry for the above in caps. I wanted to get the attention of the involved users. As for now, I am remaining out of the dispute. I highly recommend that all parties stop editing and get rational. When both users turn to each other's blogs and trade personal attack comments back and forth, my assistance ends. When you guys both grow up, I'll be here to help. I have no intention of stopping editing Javier Solana for any reason. There is no edit war going on there, my edits are perfectly legitimiate, good edits and I have no intention of letting Cumbey or anyone else stop me from doing so, while I remain a legitimate wikipedia editor. if i were to stop I would be playing into Cumbey's hands. this is non-negotiable. If you don't like it withdraw from the case. You have no right to ask me to stop editing at Solana. If Cumbey wants to debate edits she is free to do so. I am not responsible for her behavoiur, and will not take the blamne for it either. You arte making out as if I have done something wrong, which I have not. Please withdraw your ridiculous request. --User:SqueakBox 15:20, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC) :I have responded to this user and requested that he stop editing the Solana article due to the fact that the other party to the dispute has contacted me and requested my assistance in brokering a compromise. I will explain myself when the time permits. User:Kc9cqj 15:48, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC) Cumbey is not editing Solana. I am. Thuis is no more thasn an attempt to stop me editing. Why? I am not interested in any deal with Cumbey. She can discuss edits to Solana on the talk page. if she wants to bring back in WEU recommendation 666 she must do so in the talk pages. I am not now commenting on her blog, or using any of my own. i asked her to withdraw her hacking allegations after being told they were in her mind by the people whose database she accused me of hacking into. you are not being fair, you are picking on me. Please stop, --User:SqueakBox 19:56, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC) I am happy nott to bait Cumbey but I will continue to edit Solana. Who has read the whole history and agrees that I am edit warring. give one example of how my Solana edits can be considered edit warring. If you come back on Skype i am happy to talk, but my demand to keep editing Solana and any article I choose is non-negotiable, and you have no right to ask me to do such a thing. I am withdrawing the Rfc, as it clearly is not helping resolve the problem. Why not take a look at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Javier Solana Antichrist allegations to see what people really think of these beast allegations. i have justified my edits, Cumbey has not, plus she has broken the rules, inserting my name in articles, legal threats, etc. then you have the cheek to pick on me. Well don't, --User:SqueakBox 20:19, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC) ===Greets=== Hey :)--User:Plato User talk: plato 11:54, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC) === Contact === You're being contacted, per your request. What can I help you with? -User:Willmcw 06:01, Apr 19, 2005 (UTC) :About you asking about archiving old talk comments? I'm in favor of it, and I hope that editors will do a better job of communicating in the future. As for your other suggestion of having those involved sign an agreement, I think that you need to determine if you are there as a "neutral" mediator or as one editor's advocate. If you are advocating for one editor then I think that is is inappropriate to ask other editors to do x, y, or z. Heck, I'm not even sure if I'm one of the "involved". But I do appreciate your efforts to find consensus. Thanks. -User:Willmcw 06:17, Apr 19, 2005 (UTC) ::Offhand, it appears to me that an editor is trying to insert a bit of (true) trivia into an article over the objections of other editors. Somewhat reminiscent of the Darwin/Lincoln birthday dispute. But my involvement and interest in the topic are limited. I had looked in as a result of the RfC, made some comments about how Nobel Prizes work and a comment about using talk pages, and then today added the formal title of the tribunal, which has been my only actual contribution to the article. A few days ago Nobs sent me a note about the article which seemed to confuse me with other editors, but I wasn't surprised since the talk page is a mess. Overall it seems like a mountain is being made out of a footnote. -User:Willmcw 06:25, Apr 19, 2005 (UTC) Best of luck. I believe you misread in some places, and I could have been more clear in some of my comments. I retract my "high horse" comment (which was inspired after reading the exchanges between you and Nobs on your user Talk page) now that I understand your intentions were good. I was put on the defensive early in this discussion when Nobs requested advocate assistance to resolve an issue of censorship -- a charge I felt was not only inaccurate, but offensive. Even for a newbie. I applaud and admire your efforts as an advocate; a job not many are qualified to do, and even fewer and willing to do.
